As 2016 comes to a close, I am reminded that I am one year closer to going home with the Lord. Blessed thought! In addition, we are all one year closer to the blessed hope of Christ’s imminent return for His Church at the Rapture. My prayer is, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev. 22:20). So let us redeem the time and remember the old cliché, “we don’t know what the future holds, but we know Who holds the future.” Amen?

I have been impressed with the concept of “worship” lately, and how often “Christians,” including evangelicals, seem to miss the mark on this important biblical concept. Thus, we started a new series at DBC on December 11th titled, “The Wonder of Worship.” You can access these messages at the following link:  www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=121116105263

Here are the 7 key principles we studied from John 4:20-24 in our first study:

  1. The need for worship is underscored by the fact that God the Father is legitimately SEEKING people to worship Him. (4:23b)
  2. The meaning of “worship” involves HONOR AND HOMAGE GIVEN TO A SUPERIOR BEING.
  3. The place of true worship is NOT the pressing issue but the WHO, WHAT, and HOW are. (4:20-24)
  4. The object of true worship is GOD alone. (4:21, 23, 24)
  5. The framework of true worship involves a correct understanding of GOD and His WORD, starting with the SALVATION He alone provides and offers. (4:22)
  6. The manner of true worship necessitates that a true worshipper MUST worship God in SPIRIT and in TRUTH. (4:23, 24)
  7. The initial condition for true worship is entering into a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with God through FAITH alone in JESUS CHRIST. (4:25ff)
